According to Football Insider, Nottingham Forest have given midfielder Ryan Yates permission to spend the season on loan with Championship rivals Rotherham after he signed a new contract earlier this summer.
The young centre-mid seems to be held in high regard at Forest and signed a contract to keep him at the club until 2021 in July. However, with big money spent by Aitor Karanka this summer the 20-year-old’s options for first team football may be limited at the City Ground this season.
Yates was shipped out on two different loan spells last season, firstly to Notts County in League Two before making the jump to League One with Scunthorpe in the second half of the campaign.
The Nottingham-born youngster can also play in defensive midfield or on the right and Football Insider report that his next loan spell will be at a Championship club.
Despite spending over £20m this summer and breaking their transfer record with the £13m capture of Benfica midfielder Joao Carvalho, Forest still sit in 13th place in the Championship and are just two places and one point ahead of Rotherham.
There is no doubt that Yates would strengthen the Rotherham squad and, standing at 6ft 3in, would add some muscle into boss Paul Warne’s midfield.
Forest may not want to be direct rivals with Rotherham but at the moment they are and sending on of their most promising young players on loan there rather than down a division could prove to be a major mistake by Karanka.
