Following the appointment of Martin O’Neill after the departure of Aitor Karanka, Nottingham Forest have looked into the potentiality of bringing back their out-on-loan defender Joe Worrall, who is currently with Steven Gerrard at Rangers.
The Nottingham Post reports that the Championship side had until January 7th to recall the 22-year-old, but did not act on the clause in his contract.
As a result, Gers’ boss Gerrard has said that he intends to keep the young defender at Ibrox for the remainder of the season.
That is not good news for O’Neill and Forest, who are experiencing somewhat of an injury crisis in defence at the moment ahead of this weekend’s game against Bristol City at the City Ground – Danny Fox is suspended, with Michael Dawson, Michael Hefele and Tobias Figueiredo all struggling with injuries, meaning new boy Yohan Benalouane could come straight in to the XI.
Seeing as Worrall is Forest’s player, a lot of fans are up in arms about why they cannot recall the defender whenever they want, and have taken to Twitter to express their anger, although some are also keen for him to stay in Scotland to further his development…
We only have ourselves to blame regarding Worrall as we should’ve put a clause in the contract that said we could recall him in January and/or if we had an injury crisis😬 Now we need to get on and sign another centre back – simple as that👍#NFFC

Like I said I agree with keeping worrall at rangers, got more chance of guaranteed game time over there & is settled that him coming back could be a bad move #nffc

Joe Worrall was never going to be the difference. I’m happy to let him have the year in Scotland and come back a better player in the summer. #NFFC

With Dawson, Fig, Fox and Heffele and Robinson who was bought as a CB, worral would not of wanted to stay not good for his development

Worrall so average and mistake prone – and even if he was here and fit I’d want others bodies brought in over him to ease the injury crisis. What was your opinion on Brereton out of interest? World beater and the worst decision we ever made to sell simply because an academy lad?

Poor business by forest not being able to recall him and put this term in loan ..we are in a defensive crisis will now need to spend unnecessary money on centre half..absolute joke we are playing a midfielder and left back at centre half

Surely must be on the verge of signing a CB then? If not then this is managerial madness.

Only forest could be unable to recall a player ?
