Nottingham Forest have confirmed the departure of manager Aitor Karanka, after the club agreed to terminate the Spanish coach’s contract early.
Karanka took over at the City Ground on January 8th 2018. He would survive in the job for almost a year to the day. During his reign, the Reds spent heavily on new signings and the club have had a fairly inconsistent season so far.
However, the Spanish coach has left with the club sat in 7th place in the Championship and still well in the hunt for qualification for the play-offs. Therefore, it seems like an odd time for the Forest board to allow the manager to leave, especially with a replacement not already in place.

One man who could take up the now vacant hot seat at the City Ground is Slavisa Jokanovic. The former Fulham boss was sacked by the Cottagers earlier in the season, despite having guided them to promotion to the Premier League in the previous campaign.
Plenty of Forest fans have taken to Twitter in the wake of Karanka’s exit to call on the board to appoint Jokanovic…
Damn, what a thing to wake up to this morning. I really thought Karanka would have moved this club forward. Think we need to move on and welcome the next manager the same way. Hopefully Jokanovic – dont think we can get promoted this season tho #nffc #coyr #ftid

Jokanovic is the best and most realistic option – also plays wonderful football. Jardim is dream world… but this next appointment is crucial #nffc

Most fans (and I’ve done it) jump to the wrong conclusion when a manager goes.
I’d be surprised if any #NFFC fan knew the truth of what happened between Karanka & Marinakis. It appears it wasn’t down to results. Let’s get behind the club now, Jokanovic would be good replacement
