Nottingham Forest should recall Tyler Walker to boost Championship quest

Championship Picks

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Loan Watch series, which takes a closer look at those players who are aiming to galvanise their careers away from the spotlight of their parent club.

One of Nottingham Forest’s promising youngsters is currently lighting up League One.

So much so that manager Sabri Lamouchi should think about recalling him to allow him to shine for the first-team, something the Reds boss revealed he is able to do in January.

Tyler Walker, son of Des, is at the sixth loan club of his career after making his City Ground debut back in March 2015.

The 22-year-old has played 38 times for Forest, scoring six times and has been enjoying a very goal-laden spell in the last year or so at Mansfield Town and now Lincoln City.

Last season for the Stags, Walker netted 26 goals in 52 appearances, and that’s continued into this campaign even despite the rise in division and therefore quality.

In his nine matches on loan at the Imps, the young forward has scored five goals.

At the weekend, he possibly netted the most vital goal of Lincoln’s season so far by scoring an 86th-minute equaliser at Rochdale to salvage a point.

Averaging a WhoScored rating of 7.02, Walker is winning an average of 3 aerial duels per game as well as recording 1.8 shots per match too.

With fans less than impressed with Wolves loanee Rafa Mir and seemingly a lack of genuine competition in the striker department following the departures of Daryl Murphy and Jason Cummings, maybe the Forest boss should look into recalling the 22-year-old.

He would be a viable option in his own right to at least gain some sort of game time based on his exploits away from the east Midlands club.

There’s not much more he can do other than to keep on scoring. Yes, it’s at a lower level, but we won’t find out if he’s capable in the Championship unless he’s given a chance at the City Ground.
