Tom Lockyer is a good backup option if Forest fail to sign Byram

Nottingham Forest are considering a move for Bristol Rovers right back Tom Lockyer, according to The Nottingham Post.

What’s the story?

The 23-year-old has been at Rovers since he was 16 and has gone on to make over 200 appearances for the Gas.

The Wales international, who is valued at £225,000 on Transfermarkt, is being seen as a potential backup if Nottingham Forest fail to sign Sam Byram from West Ham.

Lockyer is also capable of playing in the centre of defence and could be the final piece of Aitor Karanka’s jigsaw as he readies Forest for a big Premier League push this season.

Final piece of business

Karanka sees the right back position as the final area he wants to bolster this summer after the raft of signings that have entered the City Ground.

Lockyer is very talented but it will be a big step up from League One to what will hopefully be the top end of the Championship, although his international experience will help.
