According to Sport Witness, Queens Park Rangers have accepted a £4m bid from Cardiff City for goalkeeper Alex Smithies, with the deal expected to go through in the coming days.
Smithies joined QPR from Huddersfield Town in 2015, and is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers outside of the Premier League.
The 28-year-old has made over 100 Championship appearances for the R’s over the last three seasons, and it was always going to be difficult for them to keep him this summer.
Personal terms should not be a problem, and if QPR and Cardiff have indeed agreed a price then the deal will surely go through very soon.
The QPR fans have been reacting to the transfer speculation on social media, and it would be fair to say that they are very unhappy with what they consider to be poor transfer business.
Indeed, in the current market – which is inflated to say the absolute least – £4m for a player of Smithies’ ability does seem extremely low.
A selection of the Twitter reaction from the QPR supporters can be seen below:
When you hear Alex Smithies is off to Cardiff… For £4m. pic.twitter.com/gMOdGDQFMA

Disappointed ?. Smithies is easily premiership quality. Future England keeper almost certainly. £4m is waaaaay too cheap though. Hope we’ve stuck a couple of fat sell on and caps clauses in that deal. #QPR

The Smithies deal is also making me incredibly worried for other possible sales, If we’re selling Smithies for only £4m imagine what we’d accept for Luongo if we get offers!!! ??? #QPR.

Selling arguably our best player for 4 million quid in today’s market is highway robbery. #QPR
