QPR may sit just five points off the play-off places but they could be enjoying a much more successful season if they sorted out their defensive woes.

With two clean sheets this term and 44 goals conceded in 23 league games after a 2-2 draw with Charlton, it is clear to most where improvement is needed.

However, Mark Waburton has consistently refused to criticise his team's defending, even though it has cost his team dear on far too many occasions, including against the Addicks on Saturday.

Geoff Cameron scored the opening goal but his flicked header in the dying seconds allowed Naby Sarr to strike an equaliser - but it was a mistake that was unnecessary.

Poor decision making is costing points but Warburton has taken a relaxed approach, and it is possible that the team isn't getting better because of that, much to the annoyance of fans.

After the draw with Charlton the R's boss suggested that his side need to be more clinical in attack to ensure they pick up more wins, yet goalscoring hasn't been an issue this campaign.

The sooner Warburton realises there is a need for defensive improvement the better, but until then QPR cannot expect to find winning consistency or work their way into the play-offs.

Only two teams in the division have conceded more goals than the London outfit this term, which shows Warburton's model is unsustainable, and fans are rightly frustrated.

It isn't just the sloppy goals they take exception to, however, but their manager's repeated stubbornness in seemingly refusing to label what the real problem with his team is - conceding goals.

QPR fans clearly appreciate a good defensive showing, and praised the performance of Joe Lumley when he kept his first clean sheet of the season a few weeks ago.
