QPR clearly plan to rebuild from the back having signed goalkeeper Liam Kelly, full-back Lee Wallace and now Yoann Barbet, with the 26-year-old joining on a free upon the expiry of his contract with Brentford.

The Frenchman made 30 starts for the Bees last term and his versatility will undoubtedly be a huge asset to Mark Warburton as he strives to figure out his best XI - Barbet can play at centre-back or left-back.

Signing an experienced Championship defender with the ability to play out from the back and add a physical presence for free is rare, and exactly the kind of deal QPR should be doing if they are to climb back up the table.
