Steve McClaren should take a chance on Kjartansson

QPR are interested in signing Maccabi Tel Aviv striker Vidar Orn Kjartansson, according to The Yorkshire Post.

What’s the story?

The 28-year-old joined the Israeli club two years ago and has averaged over a goal every other game, netting 31 times in 60 league games.

The Iceland international is now a transfer target for QPR, Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion, and Maccabi Tel Aviv value the star striker at £3.5million according to the report.

Worth a shot

It’s clear that Steve McClaren will want to improve on QPR’s return of 58 goals in 46 Championship games last season and he is right to be looking at a striker to support Matt Smith up top.

Kjartansson has maintained a fine scoring rate wherever he has been and it’s worth QPR taking a chance on the striker.

He’s a cheaper alternative to buying from the Championship and could give them the firepower to shoot up the table next season.
