Adkins has been handed the task of keeping Reading in the Premier League following the surprise departure of McDermott, and Zingarevich has now lifted the lid on his reasons for showing him the door.
Zingarevich made significant funds available in the January window, but for one reason or another McDermott failed to land the club’s top targets, much to the Russian’s frustration.
Adkins will now try to pull off a great escape over the next eight games. However, he has been promised cash to spend in the summer no matter what division they find themselves in.
“I want us to be an established Premier League club,” Zingarevich revealed. “There is always a budget and I felt the manager should have done more in January.
“We tried to sign some very big players and we were not successful. It was a really tough decision to part company with Brian because he was a great person but Nigel Adkins is here now and will get our full backing.”
