Reading owner Anton Zingarevich has vowed to support Nigel Adkins and says he will be given everything he needs to win promotion.

Adkins is planning for life in the Championship after relegation was confirmed at the weekend and he will get the full backing of Zingarevich when the transfer window re-opens.

The Russian says he plans to hold talks with Adkins when they will discuss the manager's transfer targets and how much cash it will take to get them on board.

"We need to give the manager all the tools he needs," he revealed. "We will sit down and discuss specifics and understand what his wishes are in terms of the current group.

"For me it's not the amount that needs to be spent but how you spend the money. We need to go out and sign the right players for us. It is like any investment."

Meanwhile, Zingarevich has stood by his decision to bring Adkins to the club and says they are playing much better football now the former Southampton man is in charge.

"From the first game Nigel came in it's been a completely different performance," he revealed. "We are holding the ball, controlling and passing it and going in the right direction. It was not the intention to give the manager eight games to either stay up or not.

"The intention was for him to come in early. Otherwise he comes in the summer and has to start from the beginning."
