Hunt is due to fall out of contract at the end of the season, and, although the Royals have offered him a new one-year deal, there is still a chance he could move on.
The Irishman wants more security now that he has turned 30 and is holding out for a two-year deal, but Reading are sticking to their guns and the player could be forced to move on.
Hunt will not be short of offers, certainly from clubs in the Championship and Brighton are reported to be lining up a bid should he decide to go in search of a fresh challenge.
Royals boss Nigel Adkins will also have his own plans for the summer with Southampton striker Billy Sharp known to be on his wanted list and he could be seen as the ideal replacement for Hunt.
