Sheffield United are once again in a good position heading towards the festive period as they lie two points clear at the top of the Championship table, and manager Chris Wilder may already be thinking about potential January reinforcements.

The Blades were in a similarly positive place this time last season and eventually fell away to a mid-table finish, and the Yorkshire outfit won't want to let the same thing happen again this time around.

United certainly have plenty of options and quality up top with the likes of Billy Sharp – who netted a hat-trick in the 4-2 win against Wigan Athletic last weekend – Leon Clarke, David McGoldrick and Conor Washington.

However, while Sharp has 11 Championship goals to his name this term the other three only have six league strikes between them, and Wilder could look to add some extra firepower to his team in the New Year.

That is something Fulham did during the previous campaign when they signed Aleksandar Mitrovic on loan from Newcastle United, and it worked as they went on an incredible run in the second-half of the campaign that saw them go up via the play-offs.

Meanwhile, Andy Carroll is currently making yet another return from injury for West Ham United but he could find it difficult to get game time under Manuel Pellegrini given he is going up against Marko Arnautovic, Javier Hernandez and Lucas Perez for a spot in the starting XI and the 18-man squad, and a loan move where he can prove himself could be beneficial for all parties.

We asked Sheffield United fans to vote on our poll to see whether they would want their club to bring Carroll – who has the experience and quality to make a similar impact to the one that Mitrovic did – to Bramall Lane, but a majority 60% said they wouldn't as you can see from the results below.
