Garry Monk has given the latest on star striker Steven Fletcher, detailing how there could be a chance he’s fit to face Cardiff on Sunday afternoon.
Fletcher has been a revelation for Wednesday in 2019/20, scoring 12 goals so far this term.
Yet, due to sickness, he missed the Owls’ defeat against Stoke. After initially going 2-1 up, it didn’t look as though they needed him. However, that was far from the case come the final whistle with neither Atdhe Nuhui nor Jordan Rhodes scoring, they eventually lost.
Fletcher still looks a little doubtful for this weekend’s coming match but there is a chance he could feature.
Speaking about his fitness after their defeat against the Potters, Monk said:
“We have got to be careful with him. He has not eaten or drank properly for quite a few days.
“He was back on the bike on today (Boxing Day) and we will assess him in the morning. Fletch may have a chance for the weekend.”
If Wednesday have desires of moving up the table and challenging for promotion then it’s vitally important that Fletcher returns imminently.
In terms of attacking output, it was bitterly disappointing from Monk’s men.
Although creativity was lacking as the Owls racked up just three key passes, perhaps the bigger threat of Fletcher would have aided their cause.

Throughout the current campaign, the former Sunderland forward has had 2.9 shots per game. He’s been clinical with those attempts and thus, the fact he could return this weekend is a huge plus.
He is nine goals ahead of his next competitor in the squad in terms of goals, with Rhodes and Kadeem Harris sitting on three apiece.
