The majority of Sheffield Wednesday fans that voted in our poll wanted the club to sign free-agent Miguel Veloso after it was confirmed that midfielder Kieran Lee would be out for an extended period of time.
The Sheffield Star reports that Lee’s return from a hip injury, that has meant he is yet to play under Luhukay, has been delayed by a new knee injury that will keep him out for several weeks more.
The defensive midfielder was on the cusp of breaking back into the Owls’ first-team squad after his long lay-off, but picked up the new injury within in an U23’s game against Colchester United.
Barry Bannan has been a fixture in Jos Luhukay’s side so far this summer but the Dutch manager is short of more defensive options to play alongside him, with Joey Pelupessy failing to impress and Tottenham loanee Josh Onomah only making his debut in the 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Wednesday evening.
For this reason, 76 per cent of Owls fans want Luhukay to sign free-agent and former Portugal international Veloso, after the 32-year-old left Genoa in the summer. Check out the full results of the poll below.
