Sheffield Wednesday eyeing bargain deal for Alexander Milosevic

Reports claim Sheffield Wednesday are eyeing a deal for Swedish international defender Alexander Milosevic, and he could be the perfect first signing of the Steve Bruce era.

What’s the story?

According to Football Insider, the Owls are one of several clubs chasing Milosevic, who is a free agent after leaving Swedish outfit AIK.

The report claims Bruce is keen to strengthen his squad this month before he takes over in February, and defenders are at the top of his shopping list.

Given the club’s current financial struggles, signing Milosevic for free could turn out to be an absolute stroke of genius from the soon-to-be boss.

How good is he?

Well, the 6 ft 3 in centre back has never ventured into one of Europe’s top leagues, but he does have five Sweden caps his name, and is pushing Manchester United’s Victor Lindelof all the way for a starting berth in the national side.

The 26 year-old is brave, tough, powerful in the air, and showed off his leadership skills earlier this month when he captained Sweden for an international friendly against Finland.

The Owls currently have the third worst defensive record in the league, conceding around 1.6 goals per game, and a dominant force like Milosevic could go a long way to patching things up at the back.

His physicality, tough tacking and commanding presence will delight fans and inspire his teammates, and the fact that he is available for free makes him the perfect first signing for Bruce.
