Sheffield Wednesday are set to lose right Jack Hunt to Bristol City, and fans are split on what that could mean for the club.
According to Dom Howson of The Sheffield Star, Hunt is “on the brink” of joining Championship rivals Bristol City for around £1.6m.
The Wednesday right back reportedly underwent a medical on Wednesday, and will make the switch in the coming days. The move comes as quite a shock, as reports of Bristol City’s interest only emerged this week.
The Owls need to trim their wage bill this summer, and getting close to £2m for a player who tends to go missing for multiple games at a time could be seen as great business.
The flying full back has some moments of excellence on the attacking end, but his positional sense is questionable to say the least, and a solid defence is key to any possible promotion charge.
Plenty of fans feel the opposite way though, worrying about the possibility of having to rely on Liam Palmer to fill the void, and it’s fair to say Hunt’s energy down that right flank will be a big miss.
Either way, you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below, as fans are completely split on the 27 year-old’s impending exit…
Giving players away now!? £1.6 mill is a joke of a fee 😡

1.6 million for an average fullback with a year on his contract is ‘giving players away’?

People moaning about the fee. He’s got 12month left & if He’s not in Jos’ long term plans then 1.6m is better than him bench warming for a year then going for nothing, out fans always find the negative instead of looking at facts

If Palmer is 1st choice I’m packing football in!

Good business for @swfc he’s replaceable. And if anybody thinks Jos will have Liam Palmer as first choice FB then clearly they have zero knowledge about football ?

Disappointing. And we now need to replace him. Palmer not Championship standard.

If we plan on having Palmer as our 1st choice right back my season tickets going in the bin.

Good luck Jack Hunt, good servant but for the fee, worthwhile cashing in. #swfc

Gutted if true

Replace him with someone who can cross or do something decent with their final ball. Wish him all the best but he’s not up there to get us premier league football that is a fact.

Strange one for me that
