Sheffield Wednesday fans crucify Hirst for parting comments

Sheffield Wednesday fans are crucifying George Hirst, after the youngster tweeted for the first time since his departure from the club.

Wednesday fans weren’t happy when it was announced Hirst will leave the club this summer, mainly due to the manner in which the transfer happened.

The youngster had been heavily linked with a move to Leicester, but despite his contract ending this summer the Foxes would have had to pay compensation to the Owls as Hirst is under the age of 24.

However, the 19 year-old has joined OH Leuven and the Owls will now receive no more than £159,000 according to the Star, as foreign clubs pay less compensation to sign young free agents.

The Belgian club are a sister club of Leicester, and they are currently managed by former Leicester boss Nigel Pearson, so it would be no surprise if Hirst moves to the King Power stadium in the near future.

The young attacker only made two senior appearances for the Owls, so fans aren’t worried about the hole he will leave in the squad, but they are annoyed by the manner of the deal.

He tweeted a goodbye message to the club this week, and let’s just say it isn’t going down too well. You can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…
