The new era at Sheffield Wednesday under Steve Bruce hasn’t quite captured the imagination of goal starved supporters just yet, but the defensive performances have been a notable bright spark.
Michael Hector, in particular, has been a colossal presence at the heart of defence and his popularity amongst the Owls faithful simply continues to grow with every passing fixture.
However, Hector was handed a new partner in the two most recent fixtures against Reading and Millwall, namely Jordan Thorniley.
The 22-year-old defender is also comfortable operating at left-back, but he has been trusted alongside Hector of late and Bruce’s show of faith has been rewarded.
In the aftermath of Wednesday’s recent trip to The Den, Thorniley posted a message to supporters on Twitter.
Proper battle last night and another clean sheet, great support once again
— Jordan Thorniley (@JudThorniley_4) February 13, 2019
In response to the post, the supporters heaped praise on Thorniley for his performance, with one fan even suggesting that he could captain the side in the years to come.
It’s still very early days in the context of his career at Hillsborough, but the enormity of the impression he has made on supporters suggests he could have a big part to play in the long-term future.
Here’s what the Wednesday faithful had to say in response to Thorniley:
You an @Big_Hec35 were immense last night Dude
