On Monday evening, a statement on Sheffield Wednesday’s official website revealed that the club’s chief executive officer Katrien Meire had left the club.
The Belgian only joined Wednesday last January having spent four years in the same role at Charlton Athletic, but has already moved on.
Meire was responsible for the ‘day-to-day running of Wednesday and worked closely on the academy side’, according to The Star.
Wednesday, whose owner Dejphon Chansiri put the club up for sale in December, are now under the management of Steve Bruce.
Bruce has made a positive start to life as head coach, with a 1-0 victory at Ipswich Town on February 2 followed by a goalless draw with Reading last time out.
Meire’s swift departure has come as a surprise, though, and many Wednesday fans have been on social media reacting to the news, which broke on Monday night.
Indeed, a selection of the Twitter reaction can be seen below:
Maybe she was on £500k a week and this will help FFP?

I recon it’s all down to Bruce wanting to work close with his own contacts, may bring a replacement in who he’s worked with before, makes sense, only heard good things about her though
