Sheffield Wednesday fans are right to rave about Barry Bannan

Sheffield Wednesday are back on track after a string of impressive results.

In the FA Cup two weeks ago, a much-altered Owls side defeated Premier League outfit, Brighton, to advance into the fourth round before coming out on top in the Yorkshire derby, beating Leeds United 2-0 on their own patch.

Is Bannan the best midfielder Wednesday have?

Their performances has got a lot of people talking at Hillsborough with midfielder Barry Bannan taking all of the acclaim.

First, there was footage of his game-winning assist published on Twitter, to which several supporters replied…

And then there was a tweet highlighting his impressive statistic from the very same game. According to Between the Lines, no player in the Championship recorded more key passes (five) over the weekend.

This has led to further praise being launched at the 30-year-old midfielder.

Bannan was described as a ‘wizard’ as well as being ‘superhuman’ by some fans while one said his pass for the winner was the best he’s ever seen in over 60 years of watching the club.

The Owls social media team had to get in on the act too, uploading a Tweet of their own praising the playmaker…

There’s still a month until Valentine’s Day, but you wouldn’t have realised due to the love-in surrounding Bannan and his latest showing for Wednesday.

Fans have been going crazy since the weekend, so much so that he was labelled ‘the GOAT’ by one member of the Hillsborough faithful.

And they all have every right to talk him up as he’s quickly becoming one of the club’s most important players. He’ll need to be the one that steps up in the absence of Steven Fletcher.

Whose Line Is It Anyway: Michael Owen, Garth Crooks or Mark Lawrenson?

Who said this... “If there’s a bit of rain about, it makes the surface wet.”

Per WhoScored, no player in the Wednesday squad has provided more assists this campaign (seven) while he records double the number of key passes per game (2.6) than the next best, Adam Reach. (1.3).

The 30-year-old also averages over 50 passes per match, which is 12 more than any other midfielder in the squad, only going to prove that he’s the focal point to the Owls’ success.

If he plays well and dominates the middle, Wednesday often come out on top as Saturday’s derby win showed.

And in other news, Garry Monk has given a clue into his plans for the January transfer window…
