Sheffield Wednesday fell to a 2-0 defeat to Premier League new boys Wolves in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening and fans of the Owls on Twitter were not happy with George Boyd’s performance.
The sides were level until the second half but Leo Bonatini eventually broke the deadlock after 53 minutes, turning in new signing Adama Traore’s cross. Then, with just five minutes remaining, Helder Costa was brought down in the box by Owls defender Morgan Fox and the Wolves forward stepped up to put the result beyond doubt from the penalty spot.
Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay changed his entire starting XI after the weekend’s 2-1 win over Ipswich and he paid the price with defeat, with Boyd in particular coming in for criticism from fans.
The 32-year-old ex-Peterborough and Hull winger joined Wednesday from Burnley on a free transfer in the summer of 2017 but only managed three goals and one assist in 25 games in all competitions last season.

At one point last night the ball broke to him and he had 40 yards of open space ahead of him. He stopped, passed back and then shrugged.
… and that was one of the better moments

Jones, Boyd and Fox with a combined weekly wage of £60k vs Lee, Baker, Preston, Nielsen, Stobbs & Kirby with a combined weekly wage of £6k. Let that sink in… Fox, Boyd and Jones have showed tonight that they should never play for this team again. #swfc

Fox and Boyd shouldn’t play for the club again, them two down the left side were abysmal #swfc

Baker put in a shift and half, played very well. Fox dealt with Adama well first half but second half couldn't keep up with him. Boyd poor again. Just a lot of sideways passing really and nothing going forward.. didn't look like we were ever gonna score. #SWFC
