Sheffield Wednesday rescued a late point as they drew 2-2 with Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Wednesday night, but Owls fans weren’t impressed with Tom Lees’ performance.
The centre-back lined up alongside Glenn Loovens at the heart of the defence and the 28-year-old – who has been a real fans’ favourite since joining the Yorkshire outfit from Leeds in 2014 and was linked with a £7m move to the Premier League less than two years ago – will feel that he should have done better for both of the Tractor Boys’ goals.
Luckily, Atdhe Nuhiu secured a draw for Carlos Carvalhal’s men deep into injury-time to ensure that the Owls extended their unbeaten run to five Championship matches.
Sheffield Wednesday supporters were quick to have their say on Lees’ showing via social media, and while one pointed to his potential value and said “you wouldn’t get 10p for him based on last night’s performance”, another said “he’s getting worse game by game”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
Whats happened to Tom Lees 😳UTO🔵⚪️🦉#swfc

That defending from Tom Lees 😢 worth £10m a season ago but you wouldn't get 10p for him on last night's performance. Doesn't help him that Loovens has clearly gone though #swfc

Frustrating performance again. Where was the energy going forward at 0-1 / 1-2? 1st time we got a player to the byline and cross, we score. Why was it at 94mins?! Nuhiu has his haters, but That was a quality header. And Lees needs dropping. Both goals down to his laziness. #swfc

Carlos got his subs and plan B spot on tonight but my god we're not going to get anywhere this season performing like that. Lees is massively overrated for me and Loovens?? Chuffing hell 🙈 so frustrating. However onto Saturday now, win, lose or draw I love this club #swfc UTO 💙

You can't tell me that Tom Lees is one of the best centre backs outside the Premier League.#swfc

He’s been sleepwalking through games all season IMO. Looks a shadow of the player he was. No confidence, ponderous in position and on the ball. Looks like he’d rather be anywhere else than a football pitch.

Really poor this season, distribution is awful, lacks real pace and looks completely lacking in confidence, tbf so do at least 6 of the rest of the team. We misplaced more passes tonight than attempts on goal, even when under no pressure #swfc

He’s getting worse game by game, he’ll sooon be as bad as Loovens
— Ian Fox (@iandfox64) November 22, 2017
Totally agree he is having a nightmare season

Lees and Loovens where shocking tonight why isn't that lad we've got on loan from Portugal getting a game ffs #SWFC
— Almen Abdi (@Always_Abdi) November 22, 2017
Thought Loovens wasn't too bad tonight. Lees was abysmal. I'm hoping he was carrying an injury because there is no other excuse for that performance #swfc
