According to Marca, Spanish side Eibar are interested in taking West Ham youngster Reece Oxford on loan, but Sheffield Wednesday must attempt to hijack any deal and bring the 19-year-old to Hillsborough.
Oxford came through the ranks at the East London club and was hugely impressive on his Premier League debut in a 2-0 win away at the Emirates during the 2015/16 season, when he was just 16 years of age.
Since then though Oxford has struggled to kick on and he made only eight appearances in all competitions during a season-long loan spell at Borussia Monchengladbach during the 2017/18 season.
Now though, Marca reports that Eibar are hoping to offer Oxford a route out of the London Stadium, where opportunities in Manuel Pellegrini’s side may be limited. The La Liga side have suffered a poor start to the season and are willing to offer West Ham a £1.8m loan fee.
Sheffield Wednesday endured a difficult summer as they were placed under a transfer embargo by the English Football League having failed to meet Financial Fair Play guidelines. This meant that boss Jos Luhukay was unable to make any permanent additions to his squad.
The embargo was lifted after the deadline had passed but the loan deadline for Football League clubs is open until August 31.
Oxford is a versatile young player who can feature either at centre back or in central midfield and would be a fantastic signing for the Owls, who currently sit 14th in the Championship having won their last two games after a poor start.
