What on earth is going on at Sheffield Wednesday? The Owls are in freefall having failed to score a single home goal since the turn of the year and winning just once in the league since 2020 rolled around.
The Yorkshire club have gone from being playoff contenders to lulling around mid-table, and that has led to a number of questions about what has gone wrong in recent weeks.
As always, one of the first places to point the finger is at the manager, but one pundit believes it’s too soon to start talking about Garry Monk’s job.
The Sheffield Star relayed Sam Parkin’s comments on the manager.
“It’s a really bad time. One win in 10 shows you that,” Parkin said on EFL on Quest (via Sheffield Star)
“A really bad week as well. No disrespect to Luton and Reading but Sheffield Wednesday supporters and people at the club would expect to get a return from that. I think it is too soon to be talking about his (Monk’s) job.”
This was a bit of a bold claim given results and naturally, some Wednesday fans were quick to disagree with this sentiment.
You can understand why as well, the club have plummeted down the league table in recent weeks, and one win in 10 has never been a recipe for keeping your job in football.
Ye lets just keep on getting hammered every week

Better too soon than too late!

It’s never too soon, Crystal palace got rid of De Boer after FOUR games coz they realised they made the wrong decision and had to act quick to save our season, we need to act now to save our season, and the next by the looks

Rather than just disagreeing with Parkin, some were outright calling for the manager’s head stating that it’s time for the club to get rid of the former Birmingham City manager.
No Luton away told me all I need to know. Let’s not waste 3 years and loads more cash. He has to go – disastrous appointment

He needs to go we are relegation bound otherwise

Another section of the fanbase were willing to be a little more patient with Monk.
Indeed, they stated that the gaffer needs to be given the opportunity to bring in his own backroom staff before he’s fully judged on his performance. This viewpoint certainly makes sense. After all, added ideas on top of Monk’s work could be what’s needed to spark something of a revival.
Needs to sack ALL the backroom staff bring his own in and give it a go

Definitely – judge Monk when he has brought his own coaching staff in and has actually brought a player in permanently. Nothing in football changed overnight. Stability is key to success. #swfc

In other news, Wednesday fans were in meltdown after Saturday’s defeat.
