Plenty of Sheffield Wednesday fans are in complete agreement with George Boyd, after the 32 year-old bashed the club’s fitness regime under Carlos Carvalhal.
There were plenty of problems for Wednesday last season, but just like every Championship team during a long, hard season, injuries eventually took their toll on the Owls.
Jos Luhukay has a few decent goalscorers at his disposal, but the Owls need more creativity to make chances for their front men.
Boyd’s crossing and set piece taking ability was sorely missed when he was injured, and the veteran midfielder has slammed Carvalhal while praising Luhukay.
“I was quite vocal about it (fitness) last season and there was nowhere near enough fitness work but this year it has already been miles better,” Boyd told The Star.
“You need that base of fitness. It is what you require for the Championship and we have done that straight away.
“Everyone has come back really fit, having done their own fitness programmes over the summer. We are aiming to be one of the fittest teams in the league.”
The former Burnley man played 36 of 38 Premier League games in his last season at Turf Moor, and it seems as though he feels his injury problems at Hillsborough could have been avoided.
Boyd played just 20 times in the Championship last season, and while he is not the dynamic player he was during his time in the Premier League, having him fit would be a huge boost for the Owls next season.
While a few fans have bashed Boyd for not taking responsibility himself, plenty are in complete agreement with his assessment on last season, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…

He played 36/38 premier league games for Burnley the season prior joining Wednesday. One pre season under us he eventually gets injured and is out for 4 month. Prob gotta point tbh

As a professional you have a duty to look after yourself but Carlos and his holiday camp crew destroyed the core fitness and just got the balls out !! The rest is history

Says everything about the way Carlos prepared the team for last season.

It was never in any doubt. Last year was a shambles hence the performances, results and ultimately injuries.
