Ampadu’s all-round game would benefit Stoke City in January

Stoke City should try to secure a loan deal for Chelsea’s Ethan Ampadu when the transfer window reopens in January.

What’s the word?

Being in the Championship now means that the Potters’ season will be even busier and tougher than when fighting it out in the Premier League.

A long, hard season means that the likelihood of injuries will increase, and the Potters need to be prepared.

With that in mind, the club should consider making a January move for Chelsea youngster Ampadu.

The 17-year-old signed for the Blues from Exeter City in 2017 and has gone on to make seven appearances for the first team.

Why do Stoke need him?

Right now, the Potters do not desperately require a player of Ampadu’s ilk, but midway through the season they could do.

Given that the teenager is likely to be on the fringes of Maurizio Sarri’s side at Chelsea, he will probably be screaming for some regular minutes come January.

Depending on the Potters’ league position, they could benefit from having fresh legs, particularly from a player as versatile as Ampadu.

The Wales international can play at centre-back and can also operate as a defensive midfielder.

If the youngster has not been snapped up beforehand, Stoke could be in a good position to strike a deal.
