Ah, Bojan Krkic. We imagine it wasn’t easy being dubbed the next Messi.
When such a foul and unattainable prophecy befalls a player – typically allocated by some social media-based scout whose research and predictions are formulated exclusively upon performances on Football Manager – success rarely follows.
Spanish outlet Foot Mercato were the ones to unwittingly place a curse on our man in question via an article titled “Barça: Bojan Krkic, le futur Messi?” in which they made the lofty claims that Bojan was “dedicated to a golden future.”
If by “golden future” they mean being released by Championship side Stoke City in the midst of what should be the prime years of one’s career then, yes, they are absolutely correct.
If not, however, then the little forward has fallen desperately short of expectations, albeit for reasons that have often been beyond human control.
Bojan officially announced the end of his four-year stay with the Potters in a heartfelt message to fans, which has been liked by his compatriot and current Manchester United goalkeeper, David de Gea.
Aw. It’s really Lovely stuff, isn’t it?
He’s still got a good few years left of his career so who knows, maybe he’ll finally come good.
You’ll always be a FM wonderkid to us, though, Bojan, immortalised in 2007 culture, right where you belong.
