Paris Saint-Germain are planning a surprise move for Stoke City outcast Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, according to The Sun.

What's the word?

There is one transfer story (or two) in most windows that leaves everyone feeling a little confused.

This one involves Stoke and their striker Choupo-Moting, who has not been included in Gary Rowett's plans so far this season.

According to The Sun, the Potters are keen to get the striker off their books and it seems that Paris Saint-Germain could be the ones to do it.

The publication states that the French giants have targeted Choupo-Moting as a replacement for Goncalo Guedes.

Head coach Thomas Tuchel is aware of the forward's qualities having come across him in the Bundesliga while the player was at Schalke and he was in charge of Borussia Dortmund.

Are Stoke making a mistake?

The Potters could be forgiven for re-thinking a potential deal given that one of Europe's heavyweights have come calling.

Whenever that happens, it would make any club question whether they are right to offload.

However, since moving to the Bet365 Stadium last year from Schalke, Choupo-Moting has scored just five goals and registered five assists in 30 Premier League outings.

Dropping into the Championship would have been less than ideal for the attacker, and Rowett needs 100% commitment from his players.

Stoke should look at a potential deal with PSG as the best-case scenario for all parties.
