According to the Mirror, Stoke City are interested in bringing Newcastle talisman Dwight Gayle to the Britannia this summer.
Newcastle’s number 9 has been at the club since signing from Crystal Palace in 2016, and has gone on to score 29 goals in 67 games for the Magpies.
He was a revelation in his first season at the club, scoring 23 goals in the Championship which helped propel Newcastle back to the Premier League.
The 28-year-old striker, who is valued at £9million on Transfermarkt, is attracting interest from new Stoke boss Gary Rowett who wants to add some firepower to his attack as he looks to return Stoke to the top-flight.
Although Gayle has understandably found goals harder to come by in the Premier League, he has demonstrated that he is a natural at Championship level.
His energy up front is infectious and he is just the sort of player any team mounting a challenge would want in their side.
The main barrier in this deal is Newcastle’s reluctance to sell, particularly if Mitrovic departs as expected.
But if Rowett can pull it off, Gayle would be a great addition to the Stoke team and his goals would certainly help change the club’s fortunes.
