England ace reveals Chelsea snub

Butland stands by Stoke decision

Twenty-year old Jack Butland has stated he was right to snub Champions League winners Chelsea for Stoke City.

Chelsea and Stoke both made offers in January for the U-21 England International for a fee believed to be in the region of £4million.  However in a surprising turn of events, it was the mid table team who snatched the youngster.  The Potters did agree to loan Butland back to Birmingham till the end of the season.

Butland said: ‘Chelsea are a fantastic club, they would attract any player and they certainly attracted me.’ (Mirror).

Butland went on to say ‘But Stoke are a fantastic club for different reasons and somewhere I feel I can better develop my game at the minute. It is as simple as that.’

The future England hopeful has certainly no issues in hiding his ambition as he sees himself pushing for the No1 international spot. ‘I feel that if I really want to push Joe Hart and the senior keepers for the senior spot then I need to be playing Premier League football.

I feel capable of doing it and feel capable of doing it with Stoke. It is a very good set-up there’
