Manchester United given transfer greenlight…should they want him

Ryan Shawcross Stoke CityStoke City Manager Tony Pulis has conceded that he would allow defender Ryan Shawcross leave the club should Manchester United come calling.

United sold the defender to Stoke for £1million back in 2008 and it believed that the Potters would have given his former club first refusal on the England International should he ever become available as part of that deal.

It is thought that the centre back has been drawing attention for several of the Premier League’s top sides including Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham.

Pulis admits that if one of the top 4 comes calling that it would be difficult to keep the star at the club, acknowledging the player’s ambition to play at the very highest level.

“If a top-three, top-four club came in, and they paid the money, there is no way in a million years we would be able to prevent Ryan from going,” he said.

“It is a natural progression for every sportsman to play at the top level, but what we want to do is ensure we have him for the rest of his career because we’re really happy with him.” Pulis told the Daily Star.

This does not mean that the Welshman is keen to see his star defender leave and revealed that he has offered the 25 year old a fresh new deal at the Britannia stadium.

He went on to add “We’re hoping and praying Ryan will be a Stoke player for the rest of his life”.

Shawcross is expected to feature for his side in this weekend’s Premier League fixture as Stoke take on QPR.
