But the 35-year-old looks set to leave the Bet365 stadium before the summer transfer window closes, having been issued just four Premier League starts by Mark Hughes last season.

Recent reports from Mirror Football have claimed Newcastle United are targeting Crouch for a summer transfer, with manager Rafa Benitez keen to be reunited with the 6 foot 7 forward he once signed for Liverpool.

But the Magpies’ hopes of signing the former Three Lions man have taken a significant hit, amid news Premier League side Swansea City are now eyeing a summer swoop as well.

The Welsh outfit are seeking replacements for star striker Bafetimbi Gomis, who is on the verge of completing a loan move to Marseille. The £3million-rated Potters ace is on their hit list, alongside Leicester City title-winner Leonardo Ulloa.
