Stoke are targeting an ambitious move for Rafa Benitez following the departure of Tony Pulis from the Britannia Stadium.
Pulis’ seven-year reign at the Britannia Stadium came to and end yesterday following a meeting with chairman Peter Coates and now the search is on for his successor.
Arsenal number two Steve Bould, Phil Neville and Mark Hughes have all been linked with the job, but reports now claim that Benitez is top of the wanted list and Coates could offer him a £3million a year deal to tempt him.
Benitez has admitted that he would prefer to stay in England now his spell as interim boss at Chelsea is over but whether he would be interested in the Stoke job remains to be seen.
The Spaniard may hold fire to see what other opportunities present themselves over the summer with the Everton job still up for grabs as David Moyes heads to Manchester United.
