Stoke City eye MLS hot-shot

USA striker Juan AgudeloStoke boss Mark Hughes is keen to secure a deal for USA international Juan Agudelo, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The new Potters chief has set about overhauling his inherited squad following his arrival at the Britannia Stadium, and has already secured deals for Erik Pieters, Marc Muniesa and Jemaine Pennant – all of whom are players not associated with the club’s style of play under Tony Pulis.

Hughes is keen to continue his rebuild with a move for Agudelo, who is widely hailed as one of America’s finest footballing talents.

‘Sparky’ met with the 20-year-old in Philadelphia last week to discuss a move, and is hopeful that a switch can be agreed quickly.

The Colombian-born striker moved to the States as a youngster, and broke into the MLS with the New York Red Bulls.

He has trained with a number of European clubs – including Liverpool and Stuttgart – but currently plays for the New England Revolution.

If he does secure a switch to Stoke, he will link up with fellow countrymen Geoff Cameron, Maurice Edu and Brek Shea.

Meanwhile, Hughes was also thought to be keen on Manchester City outcast Scott Sinclair, but he is now set to drop his interest in the winger.
