Stoke City defender Marc Muniesa has moved to Girona on a three-year deal.

The fan favourite moved to the Potters on a free from Barcelona in 2013 and has gone on to make 57 league appearances, scoring one goal.

The 26-year-old struggled with injuries during his time at the Britannia, but that didn't stop him becoming a popular figure among the fans.

The central defender spent last season on loan at his hometown club Girona and now he has made the move to La Liga permanent for an undisclosed fee.

The Spaniard posted a heartfelt message on Twitter saying "Once a potter always a potter" and thanking the club and the fans for all their support.

Stoke City fans have been reacting to the news on social media that Muniesa has left the club, with supporters understanding it was time for him to move on, but sad that a popular figure has departed.
