Stoke fear late Southampton hijack as club-record transfer draws near

According to reports from Uttoxeter Advertiser, Stoke City and Crystal Palace fear Southampton could hijack their transfer pursuits of West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino.

The Baggies famously refused to sanction the 22-year-old’s move to Tottenham Hotspur last summer but could now let him leave with a replacement already lined up.

Indeed, West Ham striker Diafra Sakho is on the verge of moving to the Hawthorns and The Telegraph believe that will catalyse Berahino’s long-awaited departure.

Crystal Palace and Stoke City are both in the running to snap up the prodigious forward, with the Potters already tabling a club-record transfer bid of £20million.

But according to Uttoxeter Advertiser, both clubs are concerned Premier League rivals Southampton could gazump them with a late swoop for the Burundi-born poacher.

The Saints were linked with Berahino in June by The Sun, who moot him as a potential replacement for now-Liverpool forward Saido Mane.

The St. Mary’s outfit are also yet to replace former frontman Graziano Pelle, who completed a move to Shandong Luneng in July.
