The stopper only moved to the Potters over the summer from Birmingham, but is some way from the first-team due to the presence of Asmir Begovic and Thomas Sorensen.
The Bosnian is set to enjoy the lion’s share of game time, which leaves Butland fighting for a spot on the bench.
Such a set of circumstances may see the one-time England international slip out of Roy Hodgson’s plans ahead of next summer, which has led to speculation that the 20-year-old may leave the club on a late loan deal.
Both Sporting Lisbon and Sheffield Wednesday are believed to be keen, and Butland believes that his future will be clearer soon.
“It will be sorted out in the next few weeks so there is no worry there,” he told The Mirror.
“Without a doubt, to go to Rio is my target.
“I know the only chance of me getting there is to be playing week in, week out and putting in extremely good performances.
“I want to make sure I do that to give myself the best opportunity of going.
“It is difficult being a keeper because only one of you can play and I have no shame in not playing because of Asmir.
“He is an incredible keeper, but I have improved since I joined Stoke and that is important to me.”
Mark Hughes is thought to be open to a temporary move away from the club for Butland.
Should Jack Butland leave Stoke? Or wait for his opportunity to shine at the Britannia Stadium?
