Stoke’s Marc Muniesa makes loan move to Girona permanent

Stoke City defender Marc Muniesa has joined Girona for an undisclosed fee after making his loan move permanent.

What’s the story?

The 26-year-old central defender joined Stoke City from Barcelona on a free in 2013 and went on to make 57 league appearances for the Potters, scoring once.

He became a real fan-favourite but his game time was limited by injuries.

The Spaniard then spent last season on loan at his hometown club Girona where he played 14 times in La Liga.

Now Muniesa has made the move to the Spanish club permanent for an undisclosed fee on a three-year deal.

Sad to see him go

Stoke fans will be disappointed to see Muniesa leave the club as he had a real bond with supporters and he looked like he could be a star back when he first signed.

However, his problems with injury meant he couldn’t sustain a run in the first-team and it seemed inevitable that he would make his loan move to Girona permanent.

Gary Rowett will be happy to recoup whatever money he can to reinvest in a squad that needs an overhaul this summer.
