Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland was chosen to start for a much changed England side in their 1-0 friendly win over Switzerland on Tuesday evening, but the 25-year-old will need to seriously consider leaving his club for a move back to the Premier League in January.

Butland has been at Stoke since the then top-flight side paid £3.5m for his signature in 2013. Last season though the Potters were relegated to the Championship after finishing second from bottom with just 33 points.

Jack Butland cries after Stoke are relegated

Stoke haven’t exactly started life in their new league brilliantly either as new boss Gary Rowett‘s reign has started with just one league win, two draws and three losses, leaving them floundering in 18th place early on.

There is no doubting that Butland is a top goalkeeper with serious potential, highlighted by his . caps for the national side. However, if he wants to challenge Jordan Pickford for Southgate’s number one shirt, or even just keep his place in the squad at this rate, then he must force a move in the next window.

His place in the England setup could be under serious threat from Burnley men Nick Pope and Tom Heaton as well as Fulham keeper Marcus Bettinelli and Southampton man Alex McCarthy who were both in the recent squad.

Here at Football FanCast, we’ve taken a look at the potential clubs in the Prem who could use Butland's services as soon as possible.

Huddersfield

The Terriers current options in goal include Englishman Ben Hamer, who conceded nine goals in the first two games he played this season against Chelsea and Manchester City, and also the 29-year-old Dane Jonas Lossl.

Lossl made an error before the international break though in trying to keep out Dominic Calvert-Lewin's header in the 1-1 draw with Everton, and he was inconsistent during his year on loan with the club last year before making his move permanent in the summer. Huddersfield may be at risk of relegation this season, but a move for Butland in January would certainly help their chances of staying up.

Bournemouth

Asmir Begovic

A move to the South Coast with Bournemouth could be a brilliant option for Butland, but initially he would have to contend for the starting spot with Asmir Begovic. The Bosnian international joined the Cherries from Chelsea in the summer of 2017 and has been solid ever since.

However, he is now 31-years-old and if mistakes begin to creep into his game there could be a chance for Butland to become the club's number one for years to come now that Eddie Howe has seemingly secured their place as a mid-table Premier League team.

Crystal Palace

Palace signed experienced Spanish keeper Vicente Guaita on a free transfer this summer after he left Getafe. However, the stopper has only made one appearance so far in the Carabao Cup and the Eagles could certainly improve on Wayne Hennessey who has played in the league.

The Wales international has been at the club since 2014 and has made 110 appearances in all competitions, but the fact that he hasn't been first choice under most managers during that time shows that there are better goalkeepers out there, of which Butland is certainly one.

So, who would you suggest that Butland joins if he wants to get back to the Premier League and keep his England career alive? Have your say by voting in the poll below.
