According to the Sunderland Echo, new Sunderland boss Chris Coleman is interested in bringing Liverpool duo Danny Ward and Ben Woodburn to the club on loan.

What's the story?

Coleman was confirmed as Sunderland's new head coach at the weekend, with the 47-year-old leaving his post with Wales to take charge of the Championship's bottom club.

Coleman's first match in the hotseat will be away at Aston Villa on Tuesday night, but it is understood that he is already thinking about the January transfer window.

According to the Sunderland Echo, the former Wales manager is desperate to sign a new goalkeeper, and has identified Liverpool's Danny Ward - who spent last season on loan at Huddersfield Town - as the perfect arrival.

Coleman is also believed to be interested in bringing Woodburn to the Stadium of Light, with the 18-year-old becoming a key player for Wales in the latter stages of his tenure.

How likely are the deals to take place?

Ward, 24, made 46 appearances for Huddersfield last season, but has featured just once for Liverpool this term due to the presence of Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius.

Liverpool are said to hold Ward in high regard despite his lack of action, and another loan move to the Championship could be seen as good for all parties.

As for Woodburn, the teenager has only made one EFL Cup appearance for Liverpool this term, and like Ward, a loan could be seen as best for his development.

The fact that Coleman has managed both players for Wales could play a big role in any possible move, and the duo would provide a major boost to a Sunderland team that are battling to avoid relegation to League One.

Much will depend on Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, but it seems that Coleman will fight to bring the duo to the Stadium of Light.
