Sunderland fans are heartbroken after Friday’s short-lived hysteria turned out to be little more than a freak result.

Fans on Wearside were starting to believe again after the Good Friday win over Derby County, as Chris Coleman’s men came away from Pride Park with an emphatic 4-1 win. Even John O’Shea was on the scoresheet!

The win against Derby feels like the distant past now though, as the Black Cats fell to yet another disappointing home defeat on Monday, leaving them five points adrift of safety with just six games left to play.

Sunderland actually played pretty well against Sheffield Wednesday on Monday, but still found a way to lose the match 3-1.

Lucas Joao opened the scoring for the visitors, before George Honeyman restored some life into the fans when he headed home Lynden Gooch’s cross.

Despite multiple decent penalty shouts for the hosts, goals from Tom Lees and Atdhe Nuhiu left the Black Cats ruing missed opportunities.

The silver lining for Sunderland fans is that none of the teams around them are picking up points either, but with only six games left to play that wont matter if Coleman’s men cant muster up another win.
