Sunderland fans have been discussing the form of Papy Djilobodji, as the loaned out defender has found his feet for Ligue 1 side Dijon.

It’s been a pretty miserable season on Wearside, and you’d be hard pushed to find a set of fans more infuriated by their own club than Sunderland.

Chris Coleman’s side looked to have started yet another great escape on Friday when they beat Derby County 4-1, only to capitulate once again at home in a 3-1 loss to Sheffield Wednesday on Monday.

The worst thing about the defeat to the Owls is that Sunderland were actually the better side for large parts of the match, but defensive frailties cost them dearly once again.

Given how fragile the Black Cats have been in defence, it is perhaps no surprise that fans are annoyed by the positive form of the big physical Papy Djilobodji, who is performing relatively well in his loan spell at French side Dijon.

The 29 year-old left Sunderland on loan after some torrid performances, but has had a good season with Dijon despite the club’s bad form, averaging 1.6 tackles, 2.5 interceptions and 7.3 clearances per game.

Plenty are asking the question whether Djilobodji could have aided the relegation scrap, and it’s a pretty even split amongst fans.
