Sunderland fans are fed up of hearing the same old excuses from Chris Coleman, and want the Welshman to drop Lee Cattermole for the next match.

Chris Coleman has been speaking ahead of the international break, and fans are not impressed by what they deem to be the same old lines from the manager.

“It’s a bit of time to re-think things,” Coleman said.

“It takes a bit of pressure off everybody because we’ve not got a game coming round in three or five days – hopefully that’ll help us.”

Sunderland lost 2-0 to Preston North End on Saturday, as Chelsea loanee Jake Clarke-Salter was sent off for the second time this season.

The Black Cats are on track for a historically bad home record this season, but still sit within five points of safety. Coleman is hoping the international break can be a perfect chance to make some changes.

“It also gives me a chance to step back from it and ask if I can come up with something to change it enough, and go down a different path to get different results.”

This at least will be music to the ears of Sunderland fans, who have been calling for wholesale changes to the team for months. Lee Cattermole and John O’Shea would be first on the chopping block if the fans had any say, and some of them want a change in formation too.

Sunderland travel to promotion chasing Derby after the break before hosting Sheffield Wednesday at the Stadium of Light.
