Former Liverpool boss closing in on return, Swansea chief emerges as shock contender for Watford

Former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is close to a return to former club Swansea over the course of the summer, according to the Daily Mail.

Rodgers was a popular figure in South Wales whilst in charge, though left the club in 2012 in order to takeover at Anfield.

He is thought to have been a top target ever since Garry Monk was axed back in December and the club have finally persuaded him to make a return.

Current coach Francesco Guidolin is not expected to continue in his role despite leading the club to safety following his shock arrival at the turn of the year.

The vastly experienced Italian could emerge as a shock contender for the Watford job if Quique Sanchez Flores loses his job.

Rodgers has been linked with jobs at Newcastle United and Celtic ever since his sacking from the Reds in October, though is understood to have been convinced to return to the Liberty Stadium.
