Bafetimbi Gomis has been fantastic of late. Swansea fans may have been worried when Wilfried Bony left in January that they would not have a man capable of leading the line, but the big Frenchman has well and truly stepped up.

However, as he limped off against Everton after just 17 minutes, the recent bubble of his performances burst a little. As the stats show, Gomis has been at his best of late, notching three goals in his last two games – from just seven shots. Even though the Swans are safe and, in truth, have little to play for, losing their main striker is a massive blow. Marvin Emnes – a like-for-like in terms of hairstyle, if not playing position – came on, and fans on Twitter were a little disappointed by the whole episode. Here are some of the best reactions to the news…

Can only apologise for injuring Bafetimbi Gomis by transferring him into my fantasy team. It was always inevitable. #bbcfootball

Hope Gomis’ injury isn’t too serious. He seems as though he’s finally picking up steam too.
