Swansea boss adamant that French striker will not be leaving the club this summer

Swansea City boss Garry Monk has admitted Dubai club Al Ahli made a bid for the club’s French striker Bafetimbi Gomis  – but insisted that he will not be leaving the Liberty Stadium ahead of the news season.

While Wales Online are reporting that there is a release clause in Gomis’s contract which could see him leave, Monk maintains the 29-year-old is fully focussed on being with the Swans when the Premier League kicks off next month.

Cash-rich Emirates side Al Ahli were reportedly prepared to offer Gomis a lucrative deal in order to lure him away from South Wales, and Monk admitted the 2014 Arabian Gulf League champions did make contact with Swansea over a potential transfer.

However, he was quick to rule out any move, remaining adamant that Gomis will be a part of the Swans squad come August.

That club made contact with the us and made an enquiry,” Monk said on Friday.

“That’s no problem, that happens.

“But Bafe is a Swansea City player. We are looking forward to working with him and him hopefully having a productive season.”

Gomis joined the Swans from Lyon last summer and scored ten goals in 37 appearances during his debut campaign for the South Wales outfit.
