Swansea may have to play a waiting game before doing a deal to sign Jonathan de Guzman on a permanent basis.
The playmaker impressed at the Liberty Stadium after arriving on a season-long loan deal from Villarreal and boss Michael Laudrup has made it clear he wants him on board again next season.
However the deal is far from straight forward and much will depend on whether Villarreal can win promotion back to La Liga.
They are in a good position to do so with just three games of the season remaining and if they do achieve promotion, there is a chance they will want to keep the Canadian-born star.
If they agree to sell then the player’s valuation will have increased, while other clubs will also be in the running following his performances for the Swans.
“I think you know as much as I do, I don’t really know,” he said when quizzed about his future. “Right now, as far as I know, I’ll be back at Villarreal. That may change from now to the day we start back, but right now I’m on my way back to Villarreal. We’ll see what happens in the summer.”
