Michael Laudrup is resigned to the possibility that he could lose star defender Ashley Williams this summer as a host of clubs express their interest.
The 28-year-old defender has been on amazing form this season and has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League. This has sparked interest from Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United who are all willing to bid £10million for the talented defender in the summer, turning their pursuit into a bidding war.
Regardless of the fact that Williams has a contract with Swansea until the summer of 2015, boss Michael Laudrup admits that the transfer talk is unsettling and he fears that he may lose one of his best players in the coming transfer window.
“When there are rumours about these clubs wanting someone from here, it is because the player has done well,” Laudrup told The Mirror.
“What can I do? I can’t call Arsenal and say, ‘Is it true?’ I don’t think Arsene Wenger would answer.
“We will have to live with these stories – it’s part of the game – but it means people have seen what we have done here.
“Ashley has had a great season. He and Chico [Flores, his fellow centre-half] have been a great pair. They are doing great together and I will be unhappy to lose that pairing for next season.”
To make matters worse for the Swans, Chico Flores is currently a target for Bayern Munich.
