Swansea City should make an ambitious attempt to sign Bournemouth forward Jermain Defoe on loan during this month's transfer window.

What's the word, then?

Defoe made 26 appearances in all competitions for Bournemouth last term, and whilst he has been involved for the Cherries this term, there is no question that he is down the pecking order.

Indeed, the centre-forward has only played 21 minutes of Premier League football during the 2018-19 campaign, and according to Sky Sports News, will be allowed to leave the Vitality Stadium this month.

Nottingham Forest have recently been linked with a move for Defoe, but Swansea should make an ambitious attempt to sign the forward on loan.

The 36-year-old has been a goalscorer at every club that he was represented, and a record of 163 strikes in 496 Premier League appearances is very impressive indeed.

Why should Swansea move for Defoe?

Oliver McBurnie has scored 10 Championship goals for Swansea this season, including a double in the 4-1 win at Reading on New Year's Day.

And there is no question that the 22-year-old would benefit from playing alongside a player of Defoe's ilk as he continues to improve.

Swansea have been inconsistent this season, but are actually only seven points off the top six with plenty of football left to play during the 2018-19 campaign.

If the Welsh outfit could bring Defoe to the Liberty Stadium this month then they would have an attack to be feared across the division.

Defoe will want to join a club where he is guaranteed to play some football, and Swansea could well be the perfect fit for the Englishman.
